Biography of Pastor David Kuehl
I was born on October 21, 1955, in Mandan, North Dakota. I was baptized at home on November 6, 1955, by my father, who was a pastor. When I was less than a year, my father accepted a call to Cudahy, Wisconsin, so I moved with my four brothers (John, Jim, Tim, and Paul) and two sisters (Kathie and Mary) to Cudahy. In 1958 another brother, Mark, came into the family. I went to kindergarten and "graduated" from St. Paul's Lutheran School on June 8, 1961. I remember very little of my years in Cudahy.
My father, in November of 1961, accepted a call to teach at Northwestern College and Preparatory School in Watertown, Wisconsin. Another sister, Beth, was added to the family in December of 1963. While living in Watertown, I completed my elementary school education, graduating from St.
Mark's Lutheran School on June 2, 1969. In a class of fourteen, I was confirmed in my Christian faith at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church on March 30, 1969. Other graduations in Watertown, were from Northwestern Preparatory School on May 24, 1973, and from Northwestern College with a B.A. degree on May 17, 1978. Between my freshman and sophomore years of college I spent time as a traveling manager and trouble shooter for a chain of service stations, working in Watertown and Baraboo, Wisconsin.
September of 1978 saw me enter Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary at Mequon, Wisconsin. During my third year of seminary training I vicared (interned) at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. During my final year at the seminary I served as part-time vicar at St. Paul's Ev.
Lutheran Church in Winneconne, Wisconsin. I graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary on May 28, 1982, with a Master of Divinity degree.
On June 27, 1982, after dating her for approximately eighteen months, I married Susan Justine Moore at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Flint, Michigan. In less than a month, July 25, 1982, I was ordained and installed as the third full-time pastor of Shepherd of the Hills Ev.
Lutheran Church, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. I served this congregation of over three-hundred souls for eight years. On September 9, 1990, I was installed as associate pastor of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church of Muskego, Wisconsin. I serve St. Paul's as the administrative pastor and pastoral advisor for the Board of Elders.
God has blessed us with two children: Justin and Madeline.
Describing myself, I would say that I am outgoing, enthusiastic, and optimistic. I am six feet tall and weigh 160 pounds. I like sports, basketball officiating, reading, and gardening.
