Biography of Pastor John Backus
John Backus joined the ministry team in November of 2008 as Pastor of Discipleship. His professional motto is: "I help Christians enjoy the Bible."
John's primary responsibility is to encourage adult spiritual growth through large and small group Bible studies. His secondary responsibility is to oversee the congregation's youth ministries.
John is a native of rural Johnson, Minnesota, where he grew up in a large family. He graduated from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota in 1999. He received a Master's Degree of Divinity from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin, in 2003. He served his first congregation in Bloomer Wisconsin for five years prior to coming to Muskego.
John has been married to his wife Rachel since June of 2000; he has three daughters: Eve, Anna and Abigail. He plays folk music on guitar and mandolin. He likes to fish, and can often be found standing next to a charcoal grill waiting for a thick steak to reach perfection.
